Cap Blanc-Nez
About twenty minutes from Calais, Cap Blanc-Nez rises as a chalk cliff more than 130 metres above the sea. From the top, in clear weather, you can see both French and English coasts at once. A path follows the edge through a landscape of wind-swept meadows dotted with blockhouses. Ideal for a first date, as long as you enjoy windblown hair and long silences.
Cap Gris-Nez and villages
A little further south, Cap Gris-Nez, lower but more rugged, gives a plunging view over the strait. The nearby villages of Wissant, Audresselles and Sangatte line up white houses with red-tiled roofs and beaches of fine sand. Sharing a seafood platter in Audresselles, then walking out on the shore at low tide, creates a long-lasting memory.
The Two Capes Grand Site
Listed as a Grand Site de France, the Two Capes area is among the most beautiful landscapes in the north. Dunes, hedged farmland, migrating birds and vast beaches at low tide form a cinematic backdrop. On Lyad, members from Calais share their favourite coves and tables; it is up to you to find someone to breathe deep with.
